OPENING SEQUENCE

We recieved some inspiration from watching a music video, 'Foals - Hummer', for the opening of our music video. It starts with a close up of the drums playing along with the music, as each insturment comes in e.g guitar strums, vocals,(pictured) in the mini clip of each instrument popping in and out of shot. We decided to ruffly use this idea with us filming our band members in long shots playing along to the music, then taking these clips into iMovie and editing them to the beat of the music and was a successful start to our video with synching of the music and editing of the clips being extremely precise.

MUSIC VIDEO ANALYSIS PREZI

Before starting our planning for our own music video we looked at and analysed other music videos to show us the codes and conventions of music videos and to give us different ideas to put into our own music video. I used 'PREZIE' an interactive cloud-based presentation software and storytelling tool for exploring and sharing ideas upon a virtual canvas.

Planning Digi Packs

This is the original single cover for the Digi Pack for the song by 'The Maccabees' 'Precious time', its very basic only using two colours and a simple cartoon.
For our digi pack album cover we plan to use at least 4 prime colours however plan to keep the simpleness of the cover so although colourful simple.

STORY BOARD

This is our draft for our storyboard which once created and photos taken we put into an animatic clip showing the timeline for our video shots on iMovie. These are the foundational ideas of our music video and although we plan to experiment with ideas as we progress we plan to follow the animatic sotryboard.

THE MACCABEES - PRECIOUS TIME

Intro                                                      Close up shots of instruments - Drums, Guitar.

Pound for pound and cheek to cheek       Band Performance
Cheek paler than a lamp light
Take me down to light the box
And play super Scalextric                        Clip of Scalextric track

And turn this                 Here the lyrics sing about darkness and light
Darkness                       and in our video we plan to use different
Into light                      lighting affects for the music video

And I'll turn too bright
Forget all the hype              O2 arena lights
I'll need heart and I'll need courage
We all need...

Toe to toe, there's nowhere to go
So I'm tiptoeing around it
I held you down and I held my own
And now I feel like I'm floating

So turn to this
Head on
And keep on
Keeping on

I'll need heart and you'll need courage
We all need time

So let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us     Time is going to be an important theme in our music video
Let's make time work for us    We are playing with the idea of having a clock speed up Let's make time work for us

Let's take our precious time about it     We are going to use lip synching when filming the
Let's take our precious time about it     band playing the song during the chorus

Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it

Don't you know, nobody knows
If there's somebody waiting
So you'll hold yourself up and you'll hold yourself in
And then pray that you are growing

And turn to this
Darkness
You turn it into light, and you'll turn too bright
Forget all the hype

You'll need heart and I'll need courage
We all need time

So let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us

Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about

'cause we'll need heart and we'll need courage
In these times
We'll need heart and we'll need courage
In these times

Because time can mean so much  In the last two powerful sentences of the song we plan to
Are you still mine?                      have a close up of the lead singer with a shade of
light on half of his face

MACCABEES TWEET

This is evidence of me tweeting the Maccabees to ask whether we could use there song Precious Time for our A2 music video. I used my BLACKBERRY Twitter App in order to write my tweet asking their twitter account, then used MUNCH SCREEN to take a screen shot of my phone screen of me doing it.

ORIGINAL VIDEO for THE MACCABBEES - PRECIOUS TIME

To show that we are not copying the original video Precious Time here is the original; however in the video we are creating we still aim to keep certain themes in all Maccabees music videos whilst adding the codes and conventions of a music video.

PLANNING OUR VIDEO TREATMENT

Music:

The Maccabees – Precious time – 3:55

In our video we hope to have a range of shots of high and low angles on a band playing the music. We also want to try a 360-degree shot all the way around.
For the lyric “lets make time work for us” we want to use stop frame animation for a clock going round to show time going by for an interesting and new way.
We hope to have some narrative within the video but not too much and break it up also with in-between performance shots of the band playing. When the band does play we want to have a blank background of white with strong and colourful lighting on them to highlight them.

We want to have 5 band members in the group:

Lead Singer: Joe Eddy
Drummer: Richard Holt
Base: Jonny Bohane
Guitar: Fin Murray
Guitar: Will Jones

We also are going to try getting colorful backgrounds of the band members and adding it into Comic Life. We will show it as stop frame in the music video of the band each saying the word “take our precious time” so it has a comic feel to it with colors and showing the different band members. We could also show the boards themselves and make them fall down showing a different member every shot
